This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home, or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualized plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to aging, disability, or some other reason.

These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical, and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Course delivery:

The course is delivered in a blended delivery model with a combination of online learning and face to face workshops in a Training room. Students will be required to complete the online theory and activities in their own time and will be required to manage their own study. Students are required to undertake 120 hours of work placement.

  • Students can enrol at any time as there are no set intake dates.
  • All training materials (including learner guides, assessment tools, access to Learning Management System and training equipment with consumables) will be provided by Attain Skills College.

RPL delivery

  • Designed for existing workers who are able to demonstrate their acquired knowledge and skill through work-based evidence.

Requirements

  • The course fee is collected in two equal monthly instalments

Note: Students are responsible for covering all expenses associated with travelling to and attending workshops and work placement required for the course as these are not included in the course fee.

Entry Requirements:

  • Minimum enrolment age – 15 years (a parental/guardian consent for learners below the age of 18 years will be required)

  • Physical Fitness: reasonable level of physical fitness in order to participate in vocational placements which will include manual handling tasks.

As a core component of this course, students will be required to complete 120 hours of Placement. Students will be required to be supervised in the workplace by supervisors that have at least 3 years’ industry experience within a position at the same or higher level than the student and must either hold the relevant qualification (as a minimum Certificate IV of Individual Care or Ageing Support or higher Diploma or Degree qualification in a relevant community care related field).

Placement can begin as soon as the student has completed the knowledge and practical assessment tasks for CHCCCS040 Support independence and wellbeing unit of competency.

For Placement, Attain Skills College will help the students to get placement in their partnered facilities but do not guarantee the placement for all location. Student can complete Placements at but not limited to the following where the equipment and resources are provided by the Placement provider:

  • Aged Care facility
  • Nursing Home
  • Disability or Community Care organisations
  • Care homes
  • Rehabilitation Centres

Work Placement provider will complete and sign off on a student logbook/skills workbook (provided by Attain Skills College) along with student to record the evidence of completion of required skills. Attain Skills College trainer and assessor will assess the logbook to assess student competency against the requirements of the qualification.

Students will be required to have access to the following at their own expense:

Computer/Digital Skills:

A significant portion of the course is completed through online learning hence students are expected to have the following computer/digital skills:

  • File Management: create and manage computer files (Microsoft Office, PDF documents, audio, video files etc.) including how to find, download, copy, rename, recover, print, scan and organise your files.
  • Use of internet and email (including selecting and using web browsers and using email).
  • Use of cloud storage solutions (For e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive).
